Investing in a Ductless Heat Pump

Although an essential component of most heating and cooling systems, an average house can lose 25% or more of its energy through ductwork.

Like the name suggests, a ductless heat pump (or mini split) can heat and cool your home without ductwork. They typically consist of a wall-mounted indoor unit combined with an outdoor condenser.

Depending on your need, you can choose between a single-room unit that will help address a need in one particular area of your home or a multi-room unit that will let you use between two and eight indoor units – connected to a single outdoor condenser – to control multiple “zones” within your home.

These extremely efficient ductless heat pumps can both cool your home in the summer and heat it during some of winter’s harshest days

When it’s time to replace your heating or cooling system, you will inevitably weigh all the options available including more efficient equipment systems. Eco-friendly heating & cooling is a term used to describe heating and cooling systems that use resources more responsibly and efficiently, with both the environment and your wallet in mind.

The first step that we will always recommend is sealing any drafty windows or doors. If you continue to experience a chill throughout the house, it is possible there is a problem with your furnace, or maybe your ductwork. It could be as simple as adjusting how much air is coming out of certain vents, or maybe adding a couple extra vents.

There are a number of factors that could be at play if your house remains cold:

  • Is your furnace the right size and is it working properly?
  • Are there enough supply vents throughout the house and in the proper locations?
  • Are there enough return air vents?
  • Are any vents covered?
  • Is the thermostat registering an accurate assessment of the home?

Commonly our recommendations will note that adding insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to add comfort to a home. That said, a properly sized furnace and adequate distribution system (ductwork) should be able to overcome any lack of insulation.

There are, of course, many different types of HVAC maintenance. For starters, there’s proactive maintenance for your heating & air conditioning systems.

Common types of proactive maintenance include:

  • Furnace tune-ups
  • Air conditioning tune-ups (and top-offs)
  • Filter maintenance (ensuring that you change filters at the right intervals, and select the right filters, can save you money and help ensure you’re breathing better air)

There’s also the kind of HVAC maintenance that happens when you notice irregularities with your heating or cooling systems. If you’re struggling to reach or maintain the desired temperature in your home or business, we can help with a diagnosis and suggested course of repair.

If you’re experiencing a HVAC emergency, such as a broken A/C or loss of heating, we can dispatch a HVAC contractor ASAP to diagnose the issue (e.g. blown fan, broken heating coils, etc.) and repair the furnace or A/C promptly.
