Furnace Maintenance Tips & FAQs
Can I convert a gas furnace to electric?
Gas furnaces can’t be converted to electric. There are different components in each type of system which make this conversion impossible, and a gas furnace will always need a source of fuel to run. You can convert the fuel system in a gas furnace to change the type of fuel it uses. For example, you can change a gas furnace that uses propane into one that uses natural gas. If you would prefer to have an electric furnace, then the gas unit will need to be completely replaced. If you are looking to make the switch, our team can provide all the information you need and help you make it happen!
Can anyone install a furnace?
Installing a furnace is a fairly complicated process. You need to choose a unit that will fit in your HVAC system and then make sure it is properly installed or it won’t work. Furnace installation gets even more dangerous if the unit runs on oil or natural gas. Only licensed HVAC professionals have the training and expertise needed to get the job done properly. Having our team of HVAC professionals install your new furnace will give you peace of mind knowing that you got the right unit for your home, the unit was installed properly, and is backed by our two year no-worry maintenance guarantee!
Why does my furnace smell like it’s burning?
The main cause of a burning smell coming from your furnace is a clogged air filter. If your air filter is clogged, your furnace’s blower motor has to work extra hard and overheat. This overheating can emit an unpleasant burning odour. Another less common possibility is that your furnace is experiencing an electrical issue, which can be a serious fire hazard and should be checked out immediately. If you are not sure what is causing the burning smell, give the Pros at Sauve Heating a call so we can come inspect your furnace and make any necessary fixes.
How often should I change my furnace filter?
As a general rule of thumb, you should check your furnace filter every month and change it at least every 12 months. If you have pets, have a smoker in your house, have done renovations, often leave the windows open or have a dusty house you will have to change your filters more often.
Why do I have to change filters on my furnace?
Changing the filters on your furnace is important for your well wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of the furnace itself. Changing the filter ensures that the air in your home remains clean and clear of dust, dander, and other pollutants which can be floating in the air. If your filter is full, then it will not be able to filter out these particles. Additionally, when a furnace has a full filter, air does not pass through as easily and your furnace has to work harder to heat and move the air throughout your home. This extra work puts stress on your furnace, making it more likely to break down. It also uses extra energy to force the air through the dirty filter, costing you more money to run it.
When should I get a new furnace?

Our team of experts can help you to determine whether it is more beneficial to continue investing in your current HVAC system or replace it with a new one, depending on the cost of the repairs and the age of your furnace.
My house is always cold, what should I do?
A great first step is to seal any drafty windows or doors. If you continue to experience a chill throughout the house, it is possible there is a problem with your furnace or maybe your ductwork. It could be as simple as adjusting how much air is coming out of certain vents, or maybe adding a couple extra vents.
There are a number of factors that could be at play if your house remains cold:
- Is your furnace the right size and is it working properly?
- Are there enough supply vents throughout the house and in the proper locations?
- Are there enough return air vents?
- Are any vents covered?
- Is the thermostat registering an accurate assessment of the home?
Sauve Heating & Air Conditioning has a reputation for finding solutions to the toughest problems, something many other companies don’t take the time to do. We take our time to find the issue(s) and offer multiple targeted options, usually consisting of a combination of solutions to keep your home comfortable.
Adding insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to add comfort to a home. That said, a properly-sized furnace and adequate distribution system (ductwork) should be able to overcome any lack of insulation.

Sauve Heating has been doing maintenance for us for a few years, last month the installed a new hot water heater for us, and I can't say enough about how good a company they are to deal with, they are very responsive, pricing is fair, they stand by their work and the service guys are great.Posted on Justin ByersTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I just had a furnace installed and I can’t say enough good things about this company. I had to make a late night service call. My call was answered immediately, no waiting for a call back. A technician arrived in less than an hour and spent a good part of the night, trying to get my 30 year old furnace running. Unfortunately it’s time had come so I knew I needed a furnace. They didn’t try to sell me parts for an obsolete model, rather they made me a priority and installed a new furnace, within a day, in the middle of a snow storm. While highways and county roads were closed, they went above and beyond to ensure I had my furnace installed. They even went out of their way to drop off multiple space heaters to keep me comfortable, while my furnace was being delivered and installed. They surely did not have to make a separate trip and buy brand new heaters for me but they did. This is the human side of a business. A business that puts customers first. How many businesses would do this? I highly, highly recommend Sauve Heating. They strive for customer satisfaction and I couldn’t be more satisfied. They also stayed within their quote and did no upselling. If you have any issues at all with your heating and cooling, call this company! Amazing service and nothing but quality workPosted on Wendy BryanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have recently had a heat pump installed by Sauvé Heating. From start to finish the Sauvé Heating team were very knowledgeable and accommodating. Ben was very patient as we went through the process, questions and concerns were all answered with ease. The installation team were top notch, quick and professional! These guys are definitely at the top of their game! No hesitation at all in recommending them…Posted on Alison BoudreauTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They really saved the day, and made the frustration of moving into a home with a non-functioning furnace feel like we had someone in our corner.Posted on NHL 22 clipsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We called Suave Wednesday they sent a technician immediately at around 7:00pm with a free diagnostic for the furnace. They ordered the part immediately. Called us as soon as the part came in. Honestly the furnace is 3 years ok they covered it under warranty (which another company did a really shitty install BH) fixed the pipes that weren’t glued by BH furnace has never run better they even sealed all the connections in the furnace so we aren’t loosing all kinds of heat. 100% percent recommend this company and will always use them extremely satisfiedPosted on Carol CarvellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ben Suave was great when he came to give us a quote on what we needed for our home. He provide a quote for a heat/ac pump. He did inform us that the electrical was separate and that the company can bring an electrician or we could get our own. We did ask roughly how much it would cost for the electrical and he said around $600.00. I cannot complain about the installation or the guys doing the work. They were all professional and did an amazing job. However, I would suggest if anyone does get a heatpump installed that you check around for the cost on the electrician. Our electrical bill was over double the verbal estimated cost.Posted on Amanda ZegersTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I will start off by saying the team was great, the work was done well and the guys explained how to use the new heat pump. The pump has been a game changer, house was nice and cold all summer!! The warranty is unbeatable! If I need another one I will probably buy from them again, but... The only reason I'm not giving 4/5 star is because the company told us they could use their partner electrician to hook up the electrical and that it shouldn't cost more than $500-$600 (they said the same thing to my mom when she got hers right after ours). We thought the verbal estimate was great BIG MISTAKE because it ended up costing us $1,075 (4 hours) and my mom was $1,426 (6 hours)!! So be cautious and get an actual written quote from them or find your own electrician! I will say my house did require a bit of extra time to hook up but this should have all been seen when the in-house visit took place, I really don't understand how they messed up my moms estimate even worse (I'm assuming 2 of those hours are travel, but the invoice doesn't explain that nor was she warned about that). The company should stop giving verbal estimates and tell their customers "the electrician charges $x/hour + parts and the cost could vary based on how quickly they can get it done". If there is travel expense, include that as well. After all, this is their partner so they should know that detail at min.Posted on Cynthia SinclairTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had used Ben Sauve 3 years ago for a complete new furnace install and we were very happy. Yesterday we hired them again for a new AC unit. We were reminded of how wonderful this company is. 1st the customer service when you call in is fantastic. We had Jordan & Wes as the installation guys and they were both wonderful. They were puctuable, knowledgeable, polite, professional & kept their work space very tidy. If you are in need of a heating or ac company look no further this is the company to use.Posted on Joann RoodeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
